As of today, milling is a part our value added rail services, performed in our Rail Services in the Netherlands. With this new service, we are able to contribute decisively to the sustainability of the Dutch railway infrastructure.
The installation of untreated rails is no longer allowed since 2016. By milling the rails, its lifespan is extended. During the production process of rails, an outer layer, known as the decarbonized surface layer, is created. This layer needs te be removed before train operation, otherwise this layer can cause significant damage to the rails. That is where milling offers the perfect solution.
The design of the new milling machine is one of a kind. This prototype is the only machine in the world that symmetrically mills in one operation. A production hall has been specially built to house our milling machine. Check out the time-lapse of the built right here.
KIWA, an authorized organization, has certified our machine, which meets the following Dutch specifications: Prefab milled, grinded or planed rails’ – SPC00011-1. We are able to mill the following rails with a standard length of 90m to 120m, with a maximum output of ≤ 360m and standard depths of ≥ 0,7 mm ≤1 mm; 2 mm, 4 mm, 6 mm and 8 mm:
Other rail profiles and depths are possible upon request. Please contact our International Sales Manager Nynke Schaap for further details.
